May 1st: Immigrant and Workers' Rights March

Watsonville, CA: A coalition of community members, local organizers and
activists invite you to join the march in support and defense of immigrant
and workers' rights. On May 1st, 2006 the historical International
Workers' Day became a symbolic day in the current struggle for immigrant
rights across the United States.

This year, the struggle continues for fair and comprehensive immigration
reform as well as an attempt to call attention to the increase number of
immigration detention centers where unjust and inhumane conditions
prevail. These detention centers are made possible through the corporate
investment of institutions such as Wells Fargo Bank.

Supporters will begin to gather at the Watsonville City Plaza beginning at
4PM.

The afternoon's activities will include:

4-8 PM

• Free and private consultations with local immigration attorneys about
the process of naturalization.
• Informational picket to be held in front of Wells Fargo.
• Photo exhibit by local photographers including Carmina Eliason and
Miguel Zafra.
• Live music by local groups including Watsonville Taiko and a special
performance by teacher Bob Gómez and students of Pajaro Valley schools
singing, "This Land is Your Land/ Esta es tu Tierra".

6PM

• March begins and travels through the neighborhoods of Watsonville and
Pajaro.
• Following the march, local leaders will speak about current immigration
reform efforts.

8PM

Screening of the film Golden Lands/Working Hands, Directed by Fred Glass -
segments on farm workers and teachers organizing.
